All Quentin wants is a normal life. Margo wants the exact opposite. Paper Towns by John Green is a fiction book that takes place in the late 2000's. Quentin Jacobsen is a 17 year old guy living in a small town, being in love with Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar. Margo is a 17 year old girl, that has so much more to her than what it looks like on the outside. After an all-night adventure with Margo and Quentin, Margo disappears, but she left clues for Quentin. Clues that lead him to her.
"The way I figure it, everyone gets a miracle. Like, I will probably never be struck by lightning, or win a Nobel Prize, or become the dictator of a small nation in the Pacific Islands, or contract terminal ear cancer, or spontaneously combust. But if you consider all the unlikely things together, at least one of them will probably happen to each of us. I could have see it rain frogs. I could have stepped on Mars. I could have been eaten by a whale. I could have married the Queen of England or survived months at sea. But my miracle was different. My miracle was this: out of all the houses in all the subdivisions in all of Florida, I ended up living next door to Margo Roth Spiegelman" (Green,prologue page 1)
I think this passage is important because it shows what kind of a writer John Green is, and it shows the writing style in the book. If you are just thinking of reading this book, it shows how the main character thinks, and what the book is going to be about. The context is very detailed and intriguing.
I recommend this book for seventh graders and up because some of the book is a little advanced so I don't thnk anyone younger than seventh grade would like as much as older people would.
